創世紀 Genesis Chapter 2
1這樣,天地和天地間的一切點綴都完成了。 1So the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the furniture of them.
2到第七天天主造物的工程已完成,就在第七天休息,停止了所作的一切工程。 2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made: and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.
3天主祝福了第七天,定為聖日,因為這一天,天主停止了他所行的一切創造工作。 3And he blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
4這是創造天地的來歷:在上主天主創造天地時, 4These are the generations of the heaven and the earth, when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the heaven and the earth:
5地上還沒有灌木,田間也沒有生出蔬菜,因為上主天主還沒有使雨降在地上,也沒有人耕種土地, 5And every plant of the field before it sprung up in the earth, and every herb of the ground before it grew: for the Lord God had not rained upon the earth; and there was not a man to till the earth.
6有從地下湧出的水浸潤所有地面。 6But a spring rose out of the earth, watering all the surface of the earth.
7上主天主用地上的灰土形成了人,在他鼻孔內吹了一口生氣,人就成了一個有靈的生物。 7And the Lord God formed man of the slime of the earth: and breathed into his face the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
8上主天主在伊甸東部種植了一個樂園,就將他形成的人安置在裡面。 8And the Lord God had planted a paradise of pleasure from the beginning: wherein he placed man whom he had formed.
9上主天主使地面生出各種好看好吃的果樹,生命樹和知善惡樹在樂園中央。 9And the Lord God brought forth of the ground all manner of trees, fair to behold, and pleasant to eat of: the tree of life also in the midst of paradise: and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10有一條河由伊甸流出灌溉樂園,由那裡分為四支: 10And a river went out of the place of pleasure to water paradise, which from thence is divided into four heads.
11第一支名叫丕雄,環流產金的哈威拉全境; 11The name of the one is Phison: that is it which compasseth all the land of Hevilath, where gold groweth.
12那地方的金子很好,那裡還產真珠和瑪瑙; 12And the gold of that land is very good: there is found bdellium, and the onyx stone.
13第二支河名叫基紅,環流雇士全境; 13And the name of the second river is Gehon: the same is it that compasseth all the land of Ethiopia.
14第三支河名叫底格里斯,流入亞述東部;第四支河即幼發拉的。 14And the name of the third river is Tigris: the same passeth along by the Assyrians. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15上主天主將人安置在伊甸的樂園內,叫他耕種,看守樂園。 15And the Lord God took man, and put him into the paradise of pleasure, to dress it, and to keep it.
16上主天主給人下令說:「樂園中各樹上的果子,你都可吃, 16And he commanded him, saying: Of every tree of paradise thou shalt eat:
17只有知善惡樹上的果子你不可吃,因為那一天你吃了,必定要死。」 17But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day soever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death.
18上主天主說:「人單獨不好,我要給他造個與他相稱的助手。」 18And the Lord God said: It is not good for man to be alone: let us make him a help like unto himself.
19上主天主用塵土造了各種野獸和天空中的各種飛鳥,都引到人面前,看他怎樣起名;凡人給生物起的名字,就成了那生物的名字。 19And the Lord God having formed out of the ground all the beasts of the earth, and all the fowls of the air, brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: for whatsoever Adam called any living creature the same is its name.
20人遂給各種畜牲、天空中的各種飛鳥和各種野獸起了名字;但他沒有找著一個與自己相稱的助手。 20And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself.
21上主天主遂使人熟睡,當他睡著了,就取出了他的一根肋骨,再用肉補滿原處。 21Then the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon Adam: and when he was fast asleep, he took one of his ribs, and filled up flesh for it.
22然後上主天主用那由人取來的肋骨,形成了一個女人,引她到人前, 22And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam.
23人遂說:「這才真是我的骨中之骨,肉中之肉,她應稱為「女人」,因為是由男人取出的。」 23And Adam said: This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.
24為此人應離開自己的父母,依附自己的妻子,二人成為一體。 24Wherefore a man shall leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be two in one flesh.
25當時,男女二人都赤身露體,並不害羞。 25And they were both naked: to wit, Adam and his wife: and were not ashamed.

节属前章,劝人守安息日为圣日。守安息日的原因与目的,见出23:12;申5:12-15。

2:4-3:24
为创造天地万物的另一记载。原来在这记载中只用了上主(雅威)的名词,但将这个记载与上章的记载编在一起时,补入了「天主」的名词。这记载的中心为人:天主对人,人对天主的态度。关於人的来历和本性,作者用简略的话,教训人一端论宗教和文化的最高深的道理:人肉身的形成,好像其他的动物,是由尘土造成的,对於灵魂却有极大的区别,它是直接由天主所造。伊甸乐园位於何处,人不得而知。乐园是天主考验人的地方。「生命树」所象徵的是天主愿意赐给人的「不死」之恩。「知善恶的树」,是试探人的工具。「知善恶」的意思,大概是说:人一犯天主的禁令,就知道所失去的超性恩宠 真善,是多麽美善,所犯的罪恶 真恶,是如何凶恶。

说明人犯罪之前,天主已叫人应该工作。

2:18-25
本段的要义有二:一、人给动物命名,是表示人受有统治一切造物的权柄;二、从亚当的肉身形成了第一个女人,是指女人同他有一样的人性,像亚当一样是照天主的肖像受造的。夫妇结为一体,表示婚姻的结合是天主制定的,人不能拆散(玛19:5,6)。赤身不害羞,是说原祖未犯罪前纯洁无罪的状态,还未体验到罪过的恶果。
