1上主對諾厄說：「你和你全家進入方舟，因為在這一世代，我看只有你在我面前正義。 1And the Lord said to him: Go in thou and all thy house into the ark: for thee I have seen just before me in this generation.
2由一切潔淨牲畜中，各取公母七對；由那些不潔淨的牲畜中，各取公母一對； 2Of all clean beasts take seven and seven, the male and the female.
3由天空的飛鳥中，也各取公母七對；好在全地面上傳種。 3But of the beasts that are unclean two and two, the male and the female. Of the fowls also of the air seven and seven, the male and the female: that seed may be saved upon the face of the whole earth.
4因為還有七天，我要在地上降雨四十天四十夜，消滅我在地面上所造的一切生物。」 4For yet a while, and after seven days, I will rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will destroy every substance that I have made, from the face of the earth.
5諾厄全照上主吩咐他的做了。 5And Noe did all things which the Lord had commanded him.
6當洪水在地上氾濫時，諾厄已六百歲。 6And he was six hundred years old, when the waters of the flood overflowed the earth.
7諾厄和他的兒子，他的妻子和他的兒媳，同他進了方舟，為躲避洪水。 7And Noe went in and his sons, his wife and the wives of his sons with him into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8潔淨的牲畜和不潔淨的牲畜，飛鳥和各種在地上爬行的動物， 8And of beasts clean and unclean, and of fowls, and of every thing that moveth upon the earth,
9一對一對地同諾厄進了方舟；都是一公一母，照天主對他所吩咐的。 9Two and two went in to Noe into the ark, male and female, as the Lord had commanded Noe.
10七天一過，洪水就在地上氾濫。 10And after the seven days were passed, the waters of the flood overflowed the earth.
11諾厄六百歲那一年，二月十七日那天，所有深淵的泉水都冒出，天上的水閘都開放了； 11In the six hundredth year of the life of Noe, in the second month, in the seventeenth day of the month, all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the flood gates of heaven were opened:
12大雨在地上下了四十天四十夜。 12And the rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
13正在這一天，諾厄和他的兒子閃、含、耶斐特，他的妻子和他的三個兒媳，一同進了方舟。 13In the selfsame day Noe, and Sem, and Cham, and Japheth his sons: his wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark:
14他們八口和所有的野獸、各種牲畜、各種在地上爬行的爬蟲、各種飛禽， 14They and every beast according to its kind, and all the cattle in their kind, and every thing that moveth upon the earth according to its kind, and every fowl according to its kind, all birds, and all that fly,
15一切有生氣有血肉的，都一對一對地同諾厄進了方舟。 15Went in to Noe into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein was the breath of life.
16凡有血肉的，都是一公一母地進了方舟，如天主對諾厄所吩咐的。隨後上主關了門。 16And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in on the outside.
17洪水在地上氾濫了四十天；水不斷增漲，浮起了方舟，方舟遂由地面上升起。 17And the flood was forty days upon the earth, and the waters increased, and lifted up the ark on high from the earth.
18洪水洶湧，在地上猛漲，方舟漂浮在水面上。 18For they overflowed exceedingly: and filled all on the face of the earth: and the ark was carried upon the waters.
19洪水在地上一再猛漲，天下所有的高山也都沒了頂； 19And the waters prevailed beyond measure upon the earth: and all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered.
20洪水高出淹沒的群山十有五肘。 20The water was fifteen cubits higher than the mountains which it covered.
21凡地上行動而有血肉的生物：飛禽、牲畜、野獸，在地上爬行的爬蟲，以及所有的人全滅亡了； 21And all flesh was destroyed that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beasts, and of all creeping things that creep upon the earth: and all men.
22凡在旱地上以鼻呼吸的生靈都死了。 22And all things wherein there is the breath of life on the earth, died.
23這樣，天主消滅了在地面上的一切生物，由人以至於牲畜、爬蟲以及天空中的飛鳥，這一切都由地上消滅了，只剩下諾厄和同他在方舟內的人物。 23And he destroyed all the substance that was upon the earth, from man even to beast, and the creeping things and fowls of the air: and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noe only remained, and they that were with him in the ark.
24洪水在地上氾濫了一百五十天。 24And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.

据古希伯来人的宇宙观：天的上边（1:7；咏104:3-13; 148:4），地的下面都为水所包围；地下的水也叫深渊（依51:10；咏36:6；亚7:4）。关於洪水 滥的日期，17节为四十天，24节为一百五十天，大概由两种不同的文献而来。
